SERGE KIS

Serge was born in Burkina Faso in 1989.  He was born deaf and attended a school for the deaf in Burkina Faso.  From the age of 8, he had an interest in art, and would draw as often as he could.  In 2007 he came to Mbour, Senegal to study with a gourd artist.  In 2009 he began working at Ecole Renaissance des Sourds (Renaissance School for the Deaf) as a teacher and art teacher.  In 2015 Serge spent 2 months in the U.S. studying different art genres with 7 different artists.  He continues to create various pieces using different media as well as working with gourds to make lamps and decorative objects.  His main focus at this time is creating linocut prints and paintings using acrylics.
