MEISSA FALL

The artist Meissa FALL was born after the independence in the former capital of French West Africa (AOF). Known by the nickname "Fm", he did his humanities on the island of Saint-Louis and inherited all the tricks of the bicycle trade from his father. His encounter with bikes is a long family story, going back to his paternal grandfather, also a great genius.

At the age of eight, during the holidays, it was initiation time. His father didn't want him doing nothing, and when his father finished repairing a bike or a moped, he gave him a rag to clean them. It was through touching them that he fell in love with the job of recycling bicycle and motorbike parts, to which he gives a second life by creating art objects in the form of birds, furniture, people, musical instruments, logos and much more, so that they remain as souvenirs of the bicycle.

Meissa says, “The bicycle has given me everything and I will never forget it, my everyday companion, my best friend. I was raised on it and today I earn my living through it. I am self-taught in the art of recycling and transforming bike parts into art objects. My dream is to pedal around the world on a bicycle and to create works of art to perpetuate the soul and spirit of the bicycle, this way my soul will rest in peace.” Meissa is transmitting his knowledge to his sons, Bassirou Fall and Abdoulaye Fall to perpetuate the heritage.
