Promoting the Arts
The Annual DWG Art Show has been one of our flagship fundraising events for the last 20 years. This event boasts a repertoire of talented emerging and established local artists. In the last four years The DWG has made a concerted effort in including a significant number of female artists.
This annual exhibition does not only serve as a financial support for the local artists, it is also a catalyst for international exposure of their talent. The Art Show has equally allowed the DWG membership community to be a part of the dynamic art tapestry in Dakar; this is why it has become an important date in Dakar’s social calendar and for zealous aspiring art collectors.
Our Work
In 2023 the 21st edition of the DWG Art Show was held at the Musee Theodore Monod (IFAN).
This exhibit showcased the work of 40 artists which included sculptures, painters and tapestry makers. These were established as well as emerging artists.
We are proud of the community that made this exhibit possible, this includes the DWG volunteers who come together to select artists, organise and promote the show, build a website and raise funds.
Prior to the exhibit, The DWG holds a Squares Auction which is an online event leading up to The DWG Art Show. This event features one unique artwork (a square) donated by the artists that will appear in the Art Show. It is an exciting event, with many bidders participating.
