AMY CELESTINA NDIONE

Amy Celestina Ndione, better known as Celestina, is an artist who graduated from the National School of Arts in Dakar. Upon graduation in 2015, she attended the studio of Senegalese artist Piniang, who was her mentor. After her first group exhibitions at the National Gallery of Dakar and in the Off of the 2018 Dakar Biennale, Celestina participated in two cross-residencies in Senegal/Canada and in Sweden and exhibited in Gothenburg. In September 2020, she is part of the exhibition "What About you" at Gallery 23 with Urban Africans in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She is a laureate of the 4th edition of “Rencontres Internationales de la Peinture à Ouagadougou” in 2021. She participated in the residency project followed by an exhibition as part of the 14th edition of the Dakar Biennale in the OFF with two other artists at the Italian Cultural Institute in Dakar. “We are not sheep” a phrase that inspired her iconic sheep in her series: Journey with the flock. Celestina currently explores the theme of human evolution on a scientific, philosophical and social level. She mixes painting, collage of recycled materials and sewing as a touch of femininity, to create a singular universe inspired by reality.
